Just A Little Something (Poppy Seed Loaf)

So we have had a busy weekend away at my sisters wedding and didn’t get back until Sunday evening, so I wanted to make a little something to keep us fed until we had time to hit the supermarket. What better than a poppy seed loaf?

This was a very simple bake, that was made whilst doing other things, and it worked really well and made for great toast this morning.

Recipe:

  • 400 g Bread Flour ( 300 g white – 100 g coarse wholemeal)
  • 250 ml Water
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Yeast

Method:

Very standard, mix – work for 10 mins, leave to rise for an hour or so. Shape, leave to rise for another hour. Brush with milk, and cover with poppy seeds.

Then bake –  220°C for 10 mins, then 160°C for 30-40 mins.

I bake with steam on a preheated stone and turn over for the last 10 mins, to give the base a proper crust.

Cheers,

Olly

  1. Your poppy seed loaf looks wonderful. It’s pretty amazing that even after having such a busy weekend, you went to the effort of making freshly baked bread. Thanks for sharing the great recipe

  2. Gorgeous loaves, I agree! Bonus points for being able to whip up these babies on the go too. Poppy seeds are a great idea, I often just do plain ole bread myself…

  3. Thank you for the lovely comments.
I really do enjoy making fresh bread. There is something so relaxing about being so involved in something so simple and everyday.
